The Centre for Democratic Business lead and co-lead (Jonny & Suzanne) have travelled north and south respectively, to join forces in the vibrant Midlands powerhouse that is Birmingham for this year’s Co-op Congress – the sector’s flagship national event.
A few years had lapsed since either had been to the event, so in many ways it proved to be a useful opportunity to reconnect with the diverse corners of the sector as well as a timely in-person opportunity to both introduce and cement people’s understanding of the role of the Centre for Democratic Business.
Our highlights:
— Discussing the potential for Greater Manchester’s Our Business platform with Co-ops UK CEO Rose Marley, which has secured £750,000 to invest in business support for inclusive businesses in the greater metropolitan region
— Speaking to David Alcock of Anthony Collins – one of leading solicitors in the sector – about the need for more innovation in the conversion market
— Listening to Coventry Building Society’s plans
— Taking part in the Co-operative Education roundtable to explore the prospects for a collective influencing strategy, aimed at increasing the frequency with which people learn about co-operatives at critical junctures in their lives.
